Pre-Conference Workshop

Tuesday, September 2nd

We are pleased to announce a pre-conference workshop that will take place prior to the main event. You can find further information here.

Welcome Reception

Wednesday, September 3rd

The LL16 conference Welcome Reception is proudly sponsored by John Benjamins Publishing, in celebration of ten years of the Linguistic Landscape journal. The welcome reception is combined with the Poster Session, and will feature an interactive exhibition reflecting on the journal’s transformative impact on our field over the last decade.

We are so grateful to Benjamins for the opportunity to celebrate together!

Conference Dinner

Thursday, September 4th

The LL16 conference dinner will be held at the Unperfekthaus in Essen, a venue that truly embodies the theme Spaces of Collapse and Transformation. Once a monastery, it has been transformed into a creative hub for art, collaboration, and responsibility, symbolizing renewal and reinvention. The Unperfekthaus is located a pleasant 10 mins walk away from the conference venue or via subway (station: “Berliner Platz”).

The dinner will feature an all-vegan menu, reflecting a commitment to sustainability, progressive action, and inclusivity. Reservations are now closed.

Conference Program

Live!

The program below is ‘live’, in that changes made in ConfTool are reflected immediately here. The most up-to-date .pdf version is available below for download.

Note: this file is somewhat large (15.3MB) and contains nearly 200 pages.
We do not plan to print this booklet; it is intended to be digital-only.
Please consider the environmental impact of printing such a document.

Social Excursion

Saturday, September 6th

We are looking forward to a trip to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Zeche Zollverein with a guided tour in English.

Meeting point: 9:30 at the Ruhrbahn KundenCenter at the Essen Hauptbahnhof train station (this is by the exit: “Ausgang Freiheit”) where we will buy tickets for any participants without a travel pass and then take the S107 Culture Line tram to Zeche Zollverein.

After the tour there will be free time to explore the mining site and its cafés and museums. Participants will be provided with a €15 voucher for Bistro Schacht XII (see menu here in German; participants will receive an informational pdf with translation and other info).

We will meet at 14:30 and return to the train station together, arriving at approximately 15:00.

Contact: If you need to contact us on the day, please call Laura on the conference phone.
